Last time I spoke with up and coming rapper Mense, he’d just released the underground banger Dear Kelisha.
And just to prove that it was no fluke, he’s just released what’s sounds like yet another fire track. In this chat we discuss what influenced the song.
PM: Tell me the story surrounding the track?
MENSE: The track is really about the journey coming from losses distractions fake loyalty and turning that into growth.
I wanted to show that people only see you winning at the end but they don’t see the pressure the silence and the sacrifices.
It blends confidence with vulnerability, that mix of moving smart staying lowkey and still celebrating the wins.
The vibe is about staying focused trusting the process and not letting the noise throw you off.
PM: What are some of the things you’ve learned about being in this business that you wish you’d known before?
MENSE: I’ve learned that not everyone around you wants to see you win. Some people switch when they see you levelling up.
I wish I knew earlier how important it is to protect your energy, keep your circle small, and move smart.
In this business, loyalty gets tested quick, so you’ve gotta stay focused on your goals and not get distracted.
PM: Has there been a feeling of catharsis releasing those thoughts and emotions?
MENSE: Absolutely. Music has always been where I let go of what I can’t explain in words.
This song was a way of taking something heavy and turning it into something that might help someone else too.
